Website builders are tools to assist with making a website so that you don't need the HTML knowledge to build a professional website. You can break website builders down into two main categories, free website builders and premium website builders.

From there you can break them down into categories such as online website builders and desktop website builders. Below I'm going to break them down into free website builders and premium website builders. On the detail page I'll break them down even further to make your understanding a bit better.

Website Tonight

Website Tonight is an online website builder that takes a lot of the headache out of building a website. You simply need to register a domain name, setup a Website Tonight account and begin building your website.

It's all managed online so you simply choose a template from 100's of templates and begin filling in the blanks with your content and images. Once you're done you can upload it to your hosting account and your website is online.

You can make as many changes as you'd like, you can even change the template as often as you'd like with no additional charges.

Free Website Builders

There are certainly advantages and disadvantages to free website builders. One thing is that they offer free website builders to get you in the door and then begin to charge you after a trial period or for advanced capabilities.

As you read my page on free website builders you'll also find some additional advantages and disadvantages such as your domain name and the overall look of your website.

Premium Website Builders

Premium website builders are the tools that you pay for up front. They generally provide advanced tools for building your website plus you own the software so there are no month to month fees associated with them.

A couple examples of premium website builders are Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft FrontPage. Both of them are applications that you pay to own and you install on your computer. As I mentioned, you have 100% control of the webpage so if you want to add scripts or anything else to your website you can. You're only limited by your knowledge.

Online Website Builders

Online website builders are great because you don't have any software to run on your computer so if you're away from you computer you can make updates to your website from any computer that has an internet connection.

Much like any other website builder, online website builders have their disadvantages such as limited flexibility with the capabilities and the overall look of your website. In my dedicated page to online website builders you'll find additional information on the advantages and disadvantages of an online website builder.
