Should I Take Advantage of Facebook Holiday Ads?

  • Should I Take Advantage of Facebook Holiday Ads?

If you're like me, you noticed a popup bar on your Facebook Page in the last few weeks advertising the publication of a Holiday ad. They claim that rates are higher this time of year. Therefore, you should promote your Page to draw in more Likes, traffic, and purchases.

My concern over this matter stewed for a few weeks. I like the idea of a holiday ad, and yes, it does make sense to take advantage of this financially busy time of year. But, what makes the ad "Holiday" appropriate? When are the best times to market yourself? Is this really worth the time and effort?

After a little research both on Facebook and across the blogosphere, it turns out I'm not the only one confused by Facebook's lack of explicit information. They provide a link to publish a Holiday ad, but they provide nothing more regarding specifics.

So, we now know that Holiday ads are a good idea, but that we don't have much more information regarding what to say and when. Or how much to spend. Or which demographics to target.

Is it worth it to do more research and throw up a few posts?

Personally, I think it might be. But, there are still other issues that might negate any future success. This is a time of year characterized by excessive spending. Unless your potential customers are buying gifts are in an otherwise spendy mood, your business might not be a good target. From massage packages to customized hammers, you can find a buyer for items and personal services.

What if you sell logos?

Unless your potential customer's son or daughter is looking for logo help, you might struggle to snag business. The same goes with things like web hosting. I've yet to secure web hosting for anyone besides myself and even then, it's not something I do because of the holiday. It may or may not be the best choice to promote your business, unless you're offering a special package or discount.

This isn't always the case and I'm sure you could show me countless examples of situations different from what I presuppose here, but it's still a worthwhile line of thought.

Wallets are tight this time of year. Are you able to compete with the other financial draws?

At the same time, I think it is always worth it to have an advertising campaign out there. People don't stop researching, looking for business solutions, and doing all that un-Holiday stuff.

Is a Facebook Holiday Ad the best bet for you?

Maybe. The closer we get to December 25th, the less business you might pull in anyway. Keep an eye on the dates, consider your potential customer (and their current financial situation), and give it a whirl! The best thing about online marketing is that it costs so little to get started. Throw $50 at it here or there, and you can learn more about your direct business situation than what I can tell you without more information!

How are your kicking up the heat for the holidays, if at all?
