I've discussed my deep love of HootSuite in the past, and my feelings haven't changed a bit. It's still a wonderful update scheduling service with wonderful capabilities (They now reach Reddit and others, too!).
But that love is not limited to the features HootSuite offers through it's social media management program. Yes, I'm talking about HootSuite University.
HootSuite is a socially-connected online program that teaches individuals how to maximize their HootSuite account while also learning the ins and outs of the social media world in general.
How much does HootSuite University cost?
Although there are some discounts and bundles available at certain times, HootSuite University usually costs about $20 a month if you already pay for the monthly Pro services.
Who is a good candidate for the program?
For those out there who really want or need to get into social media, this is the perfect program. They even reward graduates of the program with a certification, and they publish them on their profile of certified professionals. It's a wonderful way to break into the social media management field.
It's also wonderful for business owners or employees in need of a lot of social media knowledge right away.
How does HootSuite University work?
Basically, you navigate through the first parts of HootSuite University by watching detailed videos and then taking and passing exams on them. Afterwards, you must review and master several different independent topics depending on your interests. You must also engage with other people in the program on social media sites, especially Twitter.
One great aspect of the program is all of the webinars! Industry experts share real-life case studies in accessible webinars to help beginners learn the ropes the right way.
Since it's independent study, you can work at your own pace. Want to power through in a month or two? Go for it. Want to reap the benefits of this resource and study a bit now and then? That works, too. There's no one pushing you through the program, which can be very difficult for people who lack the discipline of self-motivation, though. In fact, that might be that hardest part of the coursework for some students!
Are there any similar programs?
There is no program as deeply rooted or well-maintained as HootSuite University out there. Although it is possible to learn many of these skills through intense independent study with books and many hours of YouTube, this is one of the easiest ways to master the skills you need without going crazy.
