Facebook is amazing. As soon as you have a business idea, you can go on Facebook and create a Page. From there, you can begin brand marketing before the ink has dried on the rest of the paperwork.

That's just one priceless aspect of the role social media plays in business development. Theoretically, it is all set up for success. But are you sabotaging your own Facebook marketing? If you don't know about or aren't using these Facebook Page rules, you definitely are.

1. No hard selling...ever

How many times have you looked at a Facebook Page only to click away as soon as possible because there was nothing there for you? Facebook is a personal place. We use it anywhere we have technology, including our living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

Would you want someone calling you while you're in the bathroom with the intent of selling you some product? Absolutely not!

This is the number one rule of online customer service: be a resource and they will come.

At most 10% of your posts can be self-promotional. Even then, do not push a phone number, email address, or other premise. Just share knowledge about the company, how it might solve a consumer problem, and let those seeds start sprouting on their own.

2. Pin to Top

If you had the chance to make a specific post be even more visible on Facebook, would you? Well, Facebook has two options for your to prioritize your posts. The first is Pin to Top. Essentially, you give special privilege to one post at a time. When you do this, Facebook will put an orange ribbon over the corner and make it the very first post on the Page.

3. Highlight

This is the second great Post modification resource you should take advantage of. Essentially, you designate specific posts to take up the Page's entire width. See that star heading in the picture above? If you click that, it will allow you to Highlight. Then, you'll have this:

4. Schedule

One major reason people will "Unlike" your Page is because you post too often. If I try to scroll through my News Feed and it's packed with one Page's posts, I Unlike immediately.

You work hard to get your followers; don't alienate them. Instead, plan your posts ahead of time!

It's simple. Click the clock in the bottom left corner to schedule or backdate your post.

5. Interact 

Facebook is a social media program. It's not enough to post and log-out.  Be involved! If someone posts a comment, whether good or bad, respond positively and quickly. By doing this, you show you care about what they think.

That "Like" button is powerful. Take 10 minutes daily, use Facebook as your Page, and check out others that fit your niche. If you're a restaurant, look for local businesses. Respond to their posts. Chances are they'll comment back and even Like you too. Plus, you can tap into their audience without being a spammer.

In about an hour a week, you can prove you're a real, caring person. When you follow these Facebook Page rules, you will always win.
